I have probably been dying my hair since I was 13. Okay so they were only wash in wash out colours, but still, I was hooked.
(excuse the teddy and cheesy grin. this was 2002, I was 8)
I've never really been a big fan of my natural hair colour. When I was younger I had super light, bright blonde hair but when I hit 11 it started to darken into a mousy blonde/brown colour which I did not like, and so after a few years I dyed it a very natural looking mahogany colour, which I unfortunately don't have any pictures of. As I got older and was allowed to try more permanent dyes and went for the classic highlights, and as I got a bit braver bleached the top half of my and hair and had the underneath Brunette.
I went back and forth between blonde and brunette for summer and winter for a couple years, until I got bored and finally died all my hair black.
(yes, that is all my hair, I have never owned or worn extensions)
I absolutely LOVED my black hair, I kept it completely black for about 3 years, It just seemed to not stop growing while it was dark and I just really liked it. But for some reason I don't even know anymore, I decided to try go lighter again, and stuck a hair remover on and bleached it as well.
My hair was in the good of condition here that I didn't even need to use conditioner each time I washed it and it was still be soft.
Welcome my 'Autumn hair'
But I still wasn't happy so put another bleach over it to get it lighter and well the condition just went more and more down hill, I used deep conditioners every time I washed my hair, avoided all and any heat, but it was just gone. Dead.
R.I.P hair.
And then this happened.
It short and blonde. I'd lost about half the length and it just felt wrong. For all my life I've had long hair, and honestly felt like something was missing, I know that sounds stupid. But I did.
I tried to keep it as long as possible, but by this point I was just getting bored with it so quickly, but I refused to dye it back dark because I'd just lost all the length from going light, so wasn't going to make it wasted effort.
So I went for colour.
I decided to brighten it up a bit with a pink fringe, which I used Directions hair dye for, but cannot remember which colour it was, Sorry! I was finally managing to get some moisture back into my hair but I the colour just got duller and more coppery, so after all of that....
...I put a brown on it again, nothing quite as intense as the black, Just a nice chocolatey brown, I did keep my pink bit though, I kind of became obsessed with it, but I was happy to have my brown back. I don't know why, I just never felt like I really suited the blonde.
But as it would happen, I again, got bored and wanted to slightly darker, not black, just darker, but then the hair dye betrayed me and
I was black again.
Which I didn't mind, I kept it black for another year, only ever really changing the pink bit, It went pink, red, blue, lilac and green. All Directions hair dye.
But I could only find pink and blue to show you.
I also got a full fringe! It's not the best picture, but you can see the blue.
But this time last year, I got a bit hooked and obsessed with people with red hair and ....
I have kept it red since then, Although I've gone from red to orange, but still red. IT was more just trying to find a bright red permanent hair dye. DOES SUCH A THING EXIST?!
I did lose some of the length this time, It went up to about shoulder/collar bone length, But since then, I've been trying to grow it, and just stuck to red. The only thing that's really changed has been my fringe.
It's now almost the same length as in this picture.
But after all of that, It's just in bad nick. Dry and frizzy no matter what I use, but I've invested in some lush products and hoping that they'll help my hair on the road to recovery.
If anyone has ever had red hair, they will understand how difficult the upkeep is, and even still now, After all of this, I'm thinking of going back dark brown. The upkeep for that is minimal, Just the occasional root touch up. But I don't know. What do you guys think?
Let me know down below which colour you think suited me best? and If you've had any crazy colours, or if you want to try some!
